High School Ice Hockey:
Sterling Scores 3 In The 3rd To Beat Neumann

Sterling rallied from a 4-3 deficit by scoring three goals in the last eight minutes of the game to defeat St. John Neumann 6-4 in a JVA game played at Hollydell on Sunday night. Looking at the standings, Neumann has had a tough season while Sterling has been near or on top most of the year. But tonight's game wasn't decided until the final four minutes. The only goal of the first period came with Neumann having a two-man advantage, and Brian Sciaffo firing a shot from the point and into the net for the 1-0 lead.

Late Goals Lift Penn State Over Rutgers

Paul Cassielo scored with less than six minutes left in the game, and Pat Cleary added an insurance goal in the final minute, as Penn State defeated Rutgers 7-5 in a game played at the Coliseum. The game was scoreless until the six-minute mark of the first period when State's Matt McCann scored to put the Nittany Lions up 1-0. With just under two minutes remaining in the period, Travis Ramsey tied the game at 1-1 scoring on a breakaway. Rutgers took the lead at the end of the period, scoring on the power play as Jason Montagna converted a pass from Tony Fennen, and it was 2-1 heading into the second period.

Dira And Knox Lead Collingswood To Win

Ed Dira and Kyle Knox notched two goals each, and Adam Wiedmann added a goal and two assists to lead Collingswood to a 6-3 win over West Deptford at Hollydell on Friday night. Wiedmann, who clearly was the best player on the ice, gave Collingswood the 1-0 lead midway through the period. West Deptford tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Bob Koch. Then with two minutes remaining in the period, Dira gave Collingswood the lead for good, scoring on a shot from the right circle and the period ended at 2-1.

Township Clinches 1st Place With Win Over Eastern

Washington Township clinched first place by defeating Eastern 6-4 in the final regular season game for both teams, in a game played on Friday night at Hollydell. Township won this game the way they have won most of their games this season, with Coach Harrington using three lines and getting contributions from everyone, as five different players scored goals. Coming into the game Harrington said, "Both teams are playing well and Eastern seems to be peaking, but we know what is at stake and my players will respond."

Willingboro Ends Red Devils' Winning Streak

Everyone has seen it or experienced it if you played some kind of sports...the dreaded slump. The Chimeras were hosting Rancocas Valley in a Burlington County Liberty Division boy's basketball game. Marquis Gaston for Willingboro and Dan Trump for Rancocas Valley were experiencing that shooting slump for their respective teams. But for this game, the Chimeras erased a halftime deficit to extend their winning streak with a 67-58 win in front of the home crowd.

With Near Perfection, Pennsauken Keeps Rolling Along

On Thursday, Pennsauken defeated Cherokee 3-1 to continue the Indians' chase of the conference championship. Going into the third game, host Cherokee gave Pennsauken all they could handle, after bowling team games of 934-1000. Cherokee leadoff man Jon Hopely, who had bowled games of 231-248, started the third game with 11 consecutive strikes. On the twelve bowl, Jon pulled the last shot and left the 6-10 pin for a nice game of 298, and a series of 777. Helping Jon was Steve Travis with games of 187-224-221=632.

Copskey Too Much For Audubon

The stage was set for a classic meeting between the Lady Knights of Sterling High School hosting Audubon in a Colonial Conference girl's basketball game. With the Wave trying to extend a two game winning streak, they had a tough task of trying to end Sterling's two game winning streak. On this night, it was Jessica Copskey extending the Knights' winning streak. Sterling strolled away with an 85-26 victory and remain ahead of Haddon Heights in the standings.

For Triton, Everything Is Just Flick And Dandy

Buddy Flick and Mike Dandurand each scored two goals to lead Triton to an 8-2 victory over Cherry Hill West in a game played at the Coliseum on Monday night. Mike Mastro scored both goals for West. Triton took control of the game early, scoring in the first minute as Ed Cross followed up a shot by Dandurand and the quick 1-0 lead. After Moroni made it 2-0 at the nine-minute mark, West cut the lead in half thirty seconds later when Mike Moffett set up Mastro and the period ended at 2-1.

Cinnaminson Rallies To Edge Neumann

Cinnaminson came back from a three-goal deficit and defeated St. John Neumann 7-6 in a see-saw affair that wasn't decided until the final seconds. With both teams jockeying for playoff seeding, the intensity level seemed higher and made for an entertaining game. Neumann took the lead at 1-0 when Robbie Zeoli scored with just over two minutes left in the first period. With just thirty ticks left on the clock, Joe Lagambi shot the puck from the point and by the screened goaltender to make it 2-0.

Falcons Overwhelm Greyhounds

The Greyhounds of Northern Burlington went into this basketball game knowing they were huge underdogs. Waiting for them were the Falcons of Burlington Township and their impressive start during the 1999-2000 boy's basketball season. Township had five players scoring double digits as they sent the Greyhounds home with a 94-28 Falcon victory.
