The Triton freshmen football team opened up the 2000 campaign at home on Friday. What were high hopes heading into the game were quickly faded as Eastern marched into the end zone methodically on their first possesion taking an early 8-0 lead. At the half Triton was stunned as they trailed 34-0 as Eastern crossed the goal line every time they had the ball in the first half.

The Minutemen returned to the playoffs after a two year absence, and remained in the hunt for the Olympic American Division title until the final week of the season. However, Washington Township was left with a feeling of unfinished business. A blocked extra point knocked the Minutemen out of the playoffs as they fell to Jackson, 10-9. One week later, the Minutemen were eight yards away from upsetting Eastern and capturing the Olympic American crown.
