South Jersey Soccer: BTAA PeeWee - Week 5 Update Saturday, October 14, 2000 By Jim Larsen THE "REGULATORS" REMAIN UNDEFEATED. With excellent goal tending from J. Larsen, the game remained a shut out. The win could not have happened without the efforts of his teammates. On defense were J. Gold, B. Wiesman, P. Dietrich, and M. Parisi, who all stood their ground and made the game competitive. The offense for the REGULATORS was passing and shooting better then ever. J. Ernst, N. Yaworski, A. Gilboy, and K. Ford worked great together to assist the team. B. Vogenitz showed his determination to score on Saturday, so watch out Team 4. Our game saver goes to A. Parisi, who had the only score of the game and kept the REGULATORS record True. JOB WELL DONE. |
South Jersey Soccer: Renegades Run Over Hurricanes in U-9 Girl's Soccer Saturday, October 14, 2000 By Bob Stewart After having a week off for the Columbus weekend holiday, the South Jersey Girl's soccer league started back playing. Some of the teams didn't take the weekend off because they were playing in soccer tournaments all over New Jersey and some went out of state. The PYAA Renegades came ready to play, while the Berlin Township Hurricanes took a half to get into the game. |
High School Football: Rancocas Valley Surprises Washington Twp Friday, October 13, 2000 By Vincent Lewis The Minutemen from Washington Township have been playing extremely good football this year. Known throughout the Olympic Conference as one of the tough games on their schedule, Rancocas Valley visited Washington Township knowing that they would have to play well and not make too many mistakes. Coach Jim DiCicco had his Red Devils operating his game plan to perfection as they took an early lead and convincingly defeat Washington Township. Both sides of the ball for Red Devils contributed to the 35-12 victory over a shell shocked Washington Township team. |
High School Soccer: Lady Chiefs edge Cherry Hill East Friday, October 13, 2000 By Forrest Robleto Cherry Hill was hoping that Friday 13th might bring some bad luck to the Chief's, but there wasn't much in the way of luck to it. Cherry Hill played a good game but Cherokee played a better one. Cherokee were having a good strong season and today was no exception. The Lady Chiefs won this game by a score of 2-1. |
High School Football: Howling Chiefs Defense Shuts Down East Friday, October 13, 2000 By Greg Alvord On a beautiful full moon night in Evesham, the Cherokee Chiefs and Cherry Hill East Cougars waged a battle on the gridiron. The Cougars had to feel like the characters in Warren Zevon's hit "Werewolves of London", as little old Cherry Hill East got mutilated late last night by the werewolves of Cherokee again...Howwwlll! The Chiefs continued their impressive roll with a 41-0 harvesting versus the Cougars. |
High School Ice Hockey: Johnson, Staszewski, Schanne are top Knights Friday, October 13, 2000 By Mike Costantino Sean Johnson and Scott Schanne had two goals and an assist and Mike Staszewski had a goal and two assists to lead the Sterling Knights over Collingswood 7-1 at Hollydell on Friday night. Staszewski opened the scoring, on the power play as he deposited a rebound off a Steve Marshall shot and beat Collingswood goalie Wiedmann topside for the 1-0 lead. Wiedmann was spectacular and the lone bright spot as he made numerous point blank saves. |
High School Ice Hockey: Township balance too much for Lenape Friday, October 13, 2000 By Mike Costantino Six different players scored two goals each as Washington Township defeated Lenape 15-0 on Friday night at Hollydell. Adam Zaccaria, Joe Pelle, Joe Gori, Eric Marano, Dan Fratantoro and Buddy Anderson all tallied twice as Township led after fourteen seconds were played and never looked back. Mike Mazzucca, Steve Brown and Nick Martorano also contributed goals and in a game as lopsided as this, I believe its time the league re-visited some issues concerning placing teams into competitive tiers. |
High School Football: Mainland Wins Cape Clash over Ocean City Friday, October 13, 2000 By Ed Benkin It may be the best rivalry in South Jersey. The annual Cape Atlantic American Division battle between Mainland and Ocean City isn't the oldest rivalry in the region, but it has become the most intense since the two schools emerged as Group 3 powerhouses in recent years. The game always leaves fans at the edge of their seats in the final minute of play, and the 2000 edition was no exception. The two 3-1 teams clashed in Linwood last Friday in front of a packed house on a beautiful autumn night, and the host Mustangs outlasted the Red Raiders, 20-12. |
High School Field Hockey: Eastern Wins Battle of Undefeated Friday, October 13, 2000 By Crystal Parker The match up of the season between two well coached field hockey teams finally took place on the famous Friday the 13th. The Lenape Indians hosted Eastern on a day that featured temperatures in the seventies and sunny skies on an unusually perfect weather in the month of October. Nothing was strange about the way both these teams have been playing this season. With a win, the winner would remain undefeated and the loser would receive their first lost of the season. After a scoreless first half, Sarah Dawson received credit for the winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Lenape. |
High School Football: Big Plays Decide Freshman Meeting between Triton and Shawnee Friday, October 13, 2000 By Bob Wankel The winless Mustangs of Triton High School entered week 5 as a clear underdog. They were going up against a bigger, stronger, and probably more athletic Shawnee team. They knew they had to bring their "A game" in order to win this one. They also knew that Shawnee would be in for a surprise. |
High School Tennis: Edgewood Tennis Update Wednesday, October 11, 2000 By Andrea Johnson The week started out well on Tuesday with a 5-0 win against Palmyra. Highlights of the match include wins by Alexis Switenko, Kristin Wolf, and Cassandra Young who stepped up to fill the third singles position. This win wasn't like any other because it came with bragging rights. You see, Palmyra's coach just happens to be the Edgewood Ladies own coach's brother. The rivalry between the two coaching brothers has been going on for years, and this might have been the final time to settle the score. With Mr. Mack (Edgewood's coach) going to a new school after dissolution, the future of the rivalry is not certain at this point. |
High School Ice Hockey: Eastern Rolls as Fadako Scores Four Monday, October 9, 2000 By Mike Costantino Tom Fadako scored four goals and freshman goalie Dan Meyers stopped all fifteen shots as the Eastern Vikings defeated Cherry Hill East 7-0 in a game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. With nine new faces on the team, Viking coach Mike Pontonio has his work cut out for him. He still has one of the quickest skaters in Mike Becker and with Meyers, along with last year starter Mike Keppler two solid goalies. |
