 High School Football:Irish Defense Comes Up Big in Playoff Battle Saturday, November 11, 2000 By Art Redd The Camden Catholic Irish football team were heavy favorites in the first round of the Parochial Group 3 playoffs. But don't tell that to the Spartans of Holy Spirit. In a game were the offense of both teams struggled, the defense from Camden Catholic came up big when it counted all afternoon. Joe Kedra led the Irish defensive charge late in the game to put the finishing touch on a close game. Kedra, Matt Wilson and Joe LoCastro combined on forcing a safety to give Camden Catholic a 9-6 defensive victory in the first round of the playoffs. |
 High School Football:Edgewood Defeats Toms River South in Opening Round of State Playoffs Saturday, November 11, 2000 By Lee Tomasello Edgewood Senior (9-0) defeated a strong Toms River South (5-4) Saturday in the opening round of the state football playoffs. The final score was 48-20. When the locals hit the field at the beginning of the game, they were greeted by over seventy signs painted by a group of their classmates that gave encouragement and wished them good luck. |

Reaching goals and taking the team to new heights highlighted the season. The season was not only about winning, but it was also about being a team and having four years of friendship behind them. |
 High School Ice Hockey:Six Goals In Second Period Lead East Over Lenape Friday, November 10, 2000 By Mike Costantino Cherry Hill East scored six goals in the second period to break open a close game and went on to defeat Lenape 10-5 in a game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Matt Maggi, Kevin Desrochers and Chris Hartung scored two goals each to lead East, while Gregg Bagnoli led the Lenape attack with two goals. The first period was arguably Lenape's best of the season as they controlled the play and led 1-0 on a goal scored by Scott Bell. Desrochers tied the game at 1-1 scoring a power play goal late in the period. |
 High School Ice Hockey:Suphin And Sherman Star As Shawnee Upsets Clearview Friday, November 10, 2000 By Mike Costantino Casey Sherman scored two goals and Jeff Suphin stopped all eighteen shots as Shawnee shocked defending champion Clearview 5-0. Chris Jennings scored in the games first minute on a slap shot to grab the early 1-0 lead. Shawnee would use its size throughout the game and won rather easily. Sherman scored a power play goal midway through the period to make it 2-0. In fairness to Clearview they were missing some top players including Mike and David Gooch and goaltender Jared Weisenbach. |

 High School Ice Hockey:Warrington and Orner Help Eastern Defeat Clearview Monday, November 6, 2000 By Mike Costantino Dave Warrington had two goals and two assists and Anthony Orner added a goal and two assists as Eastern defeated Clearview 5-1 in the first meeting between two of the top teams in the league. One of the keys to beating Clearview is to take advantage of your power play chances and Eastern had three opportunities in the first period and failed to capitalize. Warrington scored the only goal of the first period on a blast from the blue line through a screen. Early in the second period Eastern found itself with a two-man advantage and needed to capitalize and seize control of the game. |
