High School Basketball: Camden In South Jersey Group 3 Finals Saturday, March 3, 2001 By Vincent Lewis Dajuan Wagner and the Panthers from Camden High had little problem advancing to the South Jersey Group 3 finals against Woodrow Wilson. The High jumped out and never looked back as Wagner scored 36 point in route to their 76-57 victory. Next on tap for Camden will be Middle Township and will be played at the neutral site of Eastern High School. |
High School Ice Hockey: Six Goals In The Second Period And Strong Goaltending Lead Clearview To Victory Friday, March 2, 2001 By Mike Costantino Gunnar Fox and Ryan Arnold each scored two goals, Dave and Mike Gooch each added a goal and three assists as Clearview rolled over Washington Township 7-1 in game one of the finals in the SJHSIHL championship. Before a standing room only crowd on Friday night, the first period belonged to Clearview goalie Jared Weisenbach as he turned aside all eighteen shots, constantly frustrating the Township offense. Clearview could only generate three shots in the opening period and thanks to Weisenbach, entered the second period scoreless. |
High School Girls Basketball: Toms River North Ends Highland's Successful Season Friday, March 2, 2001 By Crystal Parker Highland's sensational season came to a halt Friday night when the Mariners from Toms River North held off a late rally to advance to the Group 4 finals. Coming into this game, the Lady Tartans knew they had a team that could compete with the defending state champs. Highland just could not overcome a key injury and a determined Toms River team. The Mariners won the game 63-55 and advanced to the finals against Brick Township. |
High School Ice Hockey: Triton Captures JVB Championship Monday, February 26, 2001 By Mike Costantino The Triton Mustangs defeated Holy Cross 3-0 and captured the JVB championship in the SJHSIHL in front of a packed house at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Zach Booth scored two goals and Steve Zimmerman added a late third period goal to pace the attack for the Mustangs. Mike Sullivan and Vince Gutierrez led the smothering defense played by Triton as they limited Holy Cross to ten shots on goal for the game. |
High School Ice Hockey: Township Wins JVA Title As Spallino Nets Three Monday, February 26, 2001 By Mike Costantino John Spallino scored three goals, Ian Potter added a goal and two assists against Highland to help Washington Township win the JVA championship 7-2 in the SJHSIHL. Township was in control from the start scoring three first period goals, including a power play goal by Mark Capone in the first three minutes to take an early 1-0 lead. Right after the face-off Potter made it 2-0 with a blast through a screen. The lead grew to 3-0 with just under nine minutes left in the period as Potter sent a shot toward the net that was re-directed into the net by Spallino. |
