"A class program would have taken a knee," was the response of a Pennsville coach after the final gun of a game that saw Salem clinch a playoff spot. This response was brought on after Salem's final touchdown, a four yard run by freshman Lamont Robinson who on his way to the endzone saw fit to run through and over two Pennsville defenders.

Willingboro Play Their Way To Sweet Victory

Coach Ty Belford entered Carl Lewis Stadium on Saturday afternoon with an opportunity to end the regular football season in style. In his last year as head coach for the Willingboro Chimeras, Belford could give the capacity crowd a lot to cheer about with a win at home against the top ranked Holy Cross Lancers. Belford got this game started with his playing of "God Bless America" on the sax which ignited the crowd. There was more to celebrate as the Chimeras convincingly defeated Holy Cross by the score of 58-30 to clinch the divisional title.

Millville Bolts Past Winslow 2-1

The Millville Thunderbolts bolted past the Winslow Township Eagles by the score of 2-1. The Thunderbolts, seeded sixth (10-8-3) traveled to Winslow, seeded third (9-4-5) in the first round of the South Jersey Group 4 Field Hockey tournament. With the construction going on at Winslow, the Field Hockey field was moved to where the girl's soccer team plays. The field here was in better condition then the other field at the middle school.

Capone And Marano Skate Township Over Shawnee

Mark Capone and Eric Marano each scored twice and added an assist and Drew Peterson chipped in with a goal and two assists to lead Washington Township over Shawnee 7-1 in a SJHSIHL varsity game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Using their speed to create opportunities, Township capitalized on the power play as Eric Marano broke down the left wing and put the puck on net. Capone jumped on the rebound and lifted the puck over the goalie for a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later with the face off in the Shawnee zone, Tom Davidson drew the puck back to Dom Fiandra and his one-timer made it 2-0.

Eastern Ends Cherry Hill East Season In Overtime

Eastern knew from the start of this game that they had to find an answer against a tough Cherry Hill East girl's soccer team. The Lady Vikings were able to get that key goal past the strong goaltending of Cherry Hill East's Emily Brenner. In the second overtime, Aleka Yrantsos scored the winning goal to give the tenth seeded Vikings a second round Group 4 victory over the second seeded Lady Cougars.

A Few Thoughts About Discipline, Fighting And The Officials

As most hockey fans know the Clearview/Township game a few weeks ago deteriorated into a "pier 6 brawl", something that has been happening too frequently throughout the league. Is fighting a part of hockey? Not at this level. These are kids, not professionals. Players are bigger and faster now than twenty years ago. This is true, but what seems to be lacking in certain instances is discipline. As parents we can teach our kids the difference between right and wrong, but we can't make choices for them. We entrust our kids to the coaches and rely on them not only to educate them on the game of hockey, but also how to conduct themselves as young men on the ice.

Fall Athletic Teams Bring Winning Back To Triton

Triton athletics are known for their scrappy, never say die attitude. However, it seems as if when you open up the paper to see what's going on in high school sports, very seldom do you see Triton amongst the Shawnees, Easterns, and Washington Townships of South Jersey high school sports. However, things change, they are indeed different this year.
