Hockey in warm weather? Are you kidding me? Well hockey is one sport that is played almost year round, from house leagues to travel teams to league play. At the Flyers Skate Zone the Eastern Vikings won this years' edition of the Spring Varsity League despite starting slowly. With head coach Mike Pontonio watching from the sidelines, assistant Steve Rumbos runs the team, along with assistance from former NHL defenseman Wayne Gibbs.

National Lacrosse League (NLL) Commissioner Jim Jennings announced today the re-location of the Washington Power franchise to Denver, Colorado for the 2002-03 season. The yet-to-be-named franchise will play it their home games in the Pepsi Center which currently houses the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche and the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets.

The Philadelphia Charge agreed to terms with forward Tara Koleski on Tuesday. Koleski spent last season and part of this year with the San Diego Spirit before being waived on June 10. In 2001 she appeared in 19 games, including nine starts, and scored four goals with three assists for 11 points in 962 minutes of action. She made the most of her final six starts, tallying a team-high four-game goal scoring streak and a five-game point streak to close out the year.

There were many side stories to last night's contest between the Philadelphia Charge and the New York Power. Under the smoke-filled skies of Villanova Stadium, 6,303 fans witnessed the return of former Charge goalkeeper (and WUSA Founding member) Saskia Webber (traded to New York following the 2001 season) and the match-up of New York's Ronnie Fair with her twin sister Lorrie Fair coupled with another outstanding effort by the Charge defensive four and goalkeeper Melissa Moore. Then there was Charge forward Marinette Pichon.

If you are looking for a good competitive summer basketball league, the Heritage Hoops League in Lawnside, New Jersey is the place to be. The league is in its second year following a 10-12 year hiatus. The league's name and reputation for great ball players is quickly growing. Many current All-South Jersey & past All-South Jersey players play in the league. Names such as Terrell Baker, Curtis Scott, Reggie Welch, Brian Turner, Antraye Miles, Torry Brooks, etc are all in this league. We seem to add a new sponsor everyday and you never know who'll be there watching.
