Winslow End of the Year Sports Report Friday, June 17, 2005 By Aquila Staff The 2005 Boys Varsity Baseball team is coming off of an impressive 13 wind season in 2004, and a trip to the state playoff. Currently, we are in the process of rebuilding as we lost 14 letterman from the prior season, 12 of which were seniors. Seven of the none starting positions will be newcomers and nonstarters from the 2004 season. Despite this, we have had a very good preseason. Our players have developed good chemistry, and are playing well together. Senior Chris Rollins has had an impressive preseason on the mound as a pitcher, and if he continues to progress, may be a possible candidate for the Major League Baseball draft. Senior Patrick Clark has been consistent on the mound, and will throw many productive innings for our team. Senior Jeff Hartley is a welcomed addition to our team. |

OC Barons 3, NY Greek-Americans (Atlas) Wednesday, June 15, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell The Ocean City Barons defeated the gritty NY Greek-Americans 3-0 at St. John's Univ tonight in what was an ill-tempered match in US Open Cup 1st Round action. It wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty, but in the end the Barons quality made the difference. The tough physical battle resulted in a 0-0 halftime scoreline but the Barons had managed several moves during that opening 45 that threatened the Atlas goal. Stalwart play by the keeper denied Mingo with a diving kick save on what was the most likely to produce a goal. On another Mingo was flattened by a blatant intentional foul by an elbow to his face while on a diagonal run through the box and a yellow was issued on the play. |
