West Gets Back to Winning Ways in Tournament Play

It was a basketball tournament that both Cherry Hill boys' basketball teams had a chance to reach the finals. Competing against the Thunderbolts from Millville in the Virginia Whitaker Classic tournament held at Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West's early lead had diminished against Millville. Ian Davis' effort down the stretch helped the Lions go ahead for good. The defense would pick up helping West preserve their 68-63 win and advance to the tournament finals against Cherry Hill East.

Cherry Hill West Adjustments Enough against Millville

It was the second time this season that these two teams competed against one another but this time it was a bit difference. This was the opening round of the South Jersey Group IV girls' soccer tournament and the ninth seeded Thunderbolts were trying to upset the eight seeded Lady Lions from Cherry Hill West. The winner would advance to the next round against the top seeded Vikings from Eastern. Millville would adjust nicely from their defeat to Cherry Hill West earlier in the season, but the Lions still had an answer and that was defense. Arielle Caldas goal was the only goal needed as Cherry Hill West advanced to the next round with their 2-0 victory.

Cherry Hill West Opens With a Win

It was a game that both teams started out knowing that they could win this game. That's a common feeling when teams play on the first day of the season. So when the Thunderbolts girl's soccer team from Millville traveled to Cherry Hill West to take on the Lady Lions, the Lions did their best to protect their home field advantage. Jen Carey scored the first goal of the game for Cherry Hill West and led at the break by two. The Lions would score twice in the second half and Cherry Hill West opened their season with a 4-0 victory.
