![]() High School Volleyball: Wednesday, May 19, 1999 By Art Redd The quest has begun for the Cherry Hill East boy's volleyball team to repeat as state champions. Oh yeah, there are a few good teams that stand in their way, but today the Cougars took one step closer in capturing their 4th straight state championship. Fair Lawn came into town and left disappointed as East cruised to a 15-6, 15-6 victory in a NJSIAA playoff match. Setter Dan Chung was able to dish out sets that allowed East to put away for the kill. |

They are: Cherry Hill East (#4), Cherry Hill West (#10), Eastern (#12), Washington Township (#16), Woodrow Wilson (#17) and Collingswood (#23). Cherry Hill East, the defending three time state champion, gets a first round bye by virtue of their seeding (#4) in a field of 23 teams. |
![]() High School Boys Volleyball: Monday, April 26, 1999 By Art Redd On Friday afternoon, the young Collingswood Panthers boy's volleyball team hosted the Pennsauken Tech Tornadoes. The short season gives either team little time to qualify for the state tournament. Both coaches wanted to gain the early edge in the first game by making sure their players were ready for anything. The intensity was present when each coach voiced their opinion on how the game was being called by the referee. After the smoke cleared, Joe Gillespie's Panthers defeated Tech in 3 games. |
![]() High School Boys Volleyball: Saturday, April 17, 1999 By Jack Tsikitas Eastern High School was host to the 4th Annual Viking Invitational Tournament. Ten teams participated in this year's tournament with 9 of the 10 teams ranked in New Jersey's top 15 (including No. 1 East Brunswick, No. 2 St. Joseph's of Metuchen, and No. 4 Cherry Hill East). The ten teams were placed in two pools of five teams each. Competition started at 8:30 AM with the final match starting at 5:30 PM. It was by far the best tournament to date with plenty of high power Volleyball action. |
High School Boys Volleyball: Cherry Hill East Serves Victory Against Sterling Thursday, April 8, 1999 By Jack Tsikitas It's early in the season, but it looks like Cherry Hill East will once again be the dominant team in the South Jersey Boy's Volleyball League and may go all the way to an unprecedented 4th state title in a row! Coach Karl Moehlmann has a team at East that has the talent to remain competitive for years to come. East had little problems putting away the Sterling Silver Knights in two straight games (15-4, 15-4). |
High School Boys Volleyball: Eastern Drops Match to Bridgewater-Raritan Saturday, April 3, 1999 By Jack Tsikitas The 1999 Boy's Volleyball season got underway on Saturday when Eastern High School hosted Bridgewater-Raritan in an Olympic Conference meeting. Both these teams were considered evenly matched. Eastern and Bridgewater were both listed in the pre-season's top 10 (Eastern was #7 and Bridgewater #5). ![]() South Jersey Volleyball: Friday, March 19, 1999 By Boog Williams What do you get when you mix the National Honor Society and the Faculty/Administration of a high school together? No, not a Knowledge Bowl Game. You get a fundraising volleyball game that is fun for the entire school. |
