Camden Secures A Position In Playoffs

Saturday, October 29, 2005

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

You will always find those teams every year coming through with that victory late in the season in order to qualify for the playoffs. This year, the Panthers from Camden High would be one of those teams on the bubble looking for a way into the group tournament. Needing a win against the Eagles from Winslow Township, the Panthers were looking to pick up some important power points. Winslow Township's hopes of winning two games in a row against teams from Camden fell short as the Panthers running game proved to be the difference. Camden would expand on their halftime lead and propel themselves into the post season with a 22-14 victory.

Palmyra Shows Appreciation With A Victory Over Bordentown

Saturday, October 29, 2005

By Vincent Lewis
SJSports Staff Writer

On a day when the Panthers would be honoring several new members with their induction to the Hall of Fame, Palmyra would be looking for a way to cap off the celebrations by picking up a win against Bordentown in a Burlington County/Olympic League Freedom Division game. A victory would be even sweeter for Palmyra as they look to assure themselves a five hundred record to qualify for the upcoming Group 1 tournament. Trailing by a touchdown at halftime, the Panthers would give the Hall of Fame crowd a lot to cheer about as Palmyra’s two fourth quarter scores would provide an exciting comeback. Palmyra would score the winning touchdown with 58.9 seconds remaining and defeat Bordentown 12-7.

Deptford Quickly Erases Any Hope of an Upset

Saturday, October 29, 2005

By George Brookings
SJSports Staff Writer

Football is a game of momentum and usually work when that them takes advantage of that emotional edge that spreads through the entire team. The Spartans from Deptford was that team expected to win their game against the Tartans from Highland. Someone forgot to tell the Tartans to just move aside and let Deptford win. Early into this game, Highland’s momentum had the edge and the lead in this Tri-County Conference Royal Division football game. Fullback Ryan Leafey’s two first half scores quickly erased Highland’s advantage leading Deptford to scoring 30 unanswered points. The Spartans went on to post a 43-28 victory.

Cherry Hill West Makes It All Even

Thursday, October 27, 2005

By Susan Hall

As the regular season winds down, it gives a team time to reflect on their season. Looking back on a few of those games, would the outcome of a game been different if the team ran their called play better? What ever the reason, field hockey is a game that’s played together as a single unit working towards a goal to win. This game between Cherry Hill West and Camden Catholic was about two teams headed into the upcoming tournament. Cherry Hill West and Camden Catholic had the chance to get ready for the start of the state tournament by giving several players a chance to play more minutes. Today, these two teams could not decide a winner as the two ended in a scoreless tie.

Schalick Ends Regular Season at Eastern

Thursday, October 27, 2005

By Clark Washington
SJSports Special Correspondent

This was the last game of the regular season for Schalick, but it would have been nice to see this game played earlier in the season. In a non-league boy’s soccer game held at Eastern, the Vikings were hosting Schalick in a game that neither team needed to win in order to qualify for the upcoming tournament. Both of these teams have secured their position in the playoff and it would hard to say that each team didn’t give it their all to win this game. Nevertheless, when the Cougars scored the first goal of the game early in the second half, Schalick proved to be the better team on this day. The Vikings would watch Schalick post a 2-0 victory over them and both teams await the start at their run at the title next week.

By Susan Hall

Camden Catholic's Michelle Vittese continues to lead her team in scoring and she would add to that total against the Lady Eagles from Paul VI. In an Olympic Conference and important National Division field hockey game against the Eagles, the Lady Irish needed just one more divisional victory to clinch the title. Seneca was that team in their rear view mirror looking to find a way to sneak up and tie Camden Catholic in the standings. But Vittese would score two goals for the Lady Irish to lead them past Paul VI by a 5-0 score.

Monday, October 24, 2005

By Joyce Sagerty

It was windy, cold and a treat of rain in the area in Pennsauken and it looked like any outdoor event would not take place. With the threat of tropical storm Wilma coming up from the South, Overbrook’s girl’s soccer team would arrive at Pennsauken High School to participate in a non league competition. It was close to the end of the season for both teams, but that didn’t stop these girls from competing on the field. The Lady Indians would take full control of this game from the start and pick up the victory by a 5-0 margin.
