Shawnee Passes another Test against Lancers

High school students are always encouraged to learn as much as they can, work hard and do your best and you will exceed. Exams are also that measurement of what you have been taught and the results show how much you have learned. So far this season, the Renegades from Shawnee boys' lacrosse team have been passing all of their tests and it was time to give them another. Facing them this time at Holy Cross, the Lancers would provide Shawnee with a challenge that the Renegades needed all the help they could get. Trailing by a goal in the fourth quarter, Shawnee would take the lead on Kohl Meyer's goal and managed to hold off the Lancers late rally. The Renegades would celebrate their 7-6 victory in a game that had to be their toughest test of the year.

Holy Cross Finally Gets Their Season Opener

It's not easy waiting around for something to happen and you have no control over it. Take for instance the Lancers from Holy Cross boys' lacrosse team. Finally getting a chance to play, they still had to wait for the junior varsity to finish their game. By the time the Lancers took the field against West Deptford, this game swung quickly in favor of the home team. Holy Cross jumped out to a five goal lead at halftime and continued to dominate their opponent behind Paul Colflesh and Sean Neary three goal performance. The Lancers would start off the season with a 12-4 victory.

Cherry Hill West Rallies, Forces Deciding Game in Tier 2 Championship

Bret Cybulski score two third period goals as Cherry Hill West rallied from a 3-0 deficit and defeated Holy Cross 4-3 and force a deciding game in the Tier 2 Championship. Holy Cross jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period on goals by Nick, Mullarkey, Matt Tamez and Mike Lukis but was shutout the rest of the way as goalie John Mehler stopped all 14 shots. Down 3-0 heading into the second period, Bill Berenato scored early to cut the lead to 3-1, and after Ryan Pierce cut the lead to 3-2 at the six minute mark, West was back in the game. Holy Cross could only manage three shots in the period and West had the momentum heading into the third period.

Wild Second Period propels Holy Cross

Holy Cross and Cinnaminson combined for seven goals in the second period, Cinnaminson scoring the first two and Holy Cross scoring the next five for a 5-2 victory and a spot in the Tier 2 championship game. After a scoreless first period in front of a packed house at the Igloo, Cinnaminson scored twice within thirty seconds to take a 2-0 lead. Both goals were set-up by Dave Verbaro, first Dan DiBartolo and then Ryan Quigley. Holy Cross roared back scoring five goals in four minutes to take control of the game.

Holy Cross and Cherokee 2 Battle to a Draw

Joe Paradise scored with just over four minutes remaining in the game as Holy Cross and Cherokee 2 played to a 2-2 tie at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After Nick Petitte and Anthony Carr exchanged goals in the first period, neither team could score in the middle stanza, thanks to good back checking and solid goaltending by both teams. John Gidel gave Cherokee a 2-1 lead early in the third period as he jammed home a short side shot. With Holy Cross on the power play, Petitte set-up Paradise for the tying goal, and Holy Cross hung on for the tie. With the point Holy Cross maintains a one point lead over Cherokee, with Cinnaminson closing fast.

Second Half Surge Pushes Holy Cross Ahead

Two teams that have already secured a seed in the upcoming NJSIAA state tournament were Northern Burlington and Holy Cross. Today, they had an opportunity to compete in an inter-division Burlington County League field hockey game. For one half of this classic match up, neither team had an advantage on the scoreboard at intermission. Taking advantage of their situations, the Lady Lancers would score the only goals of the second half and posted a 3-1 victory over Northern Burlington. Lauren Hadam scored twice for Holy Cross.

Moorestown Defeats Holy Cross in a Battle between Leaders

You couldn't help but notice that the game between the Lady Quakers from Moorestown and the Lady Lancers from Holy Cross would be something special. These two teams represented field hockey programs that have successfully rolled through their schedule compiling win after win. Their accomplishments during the regular season have rewarded them with championships from their perspective division in the Burlington County League. But today, each team would put away their recent success and completed on the field in an inter-league game. Moorestown would strike first in this game and never looked back from that point on. The Lady Quakers would post the 3-0 lead and pick up another win against a very good team.

With the month of May only a few days away, for many teams the threat of showers have been a distant thought as rain has mostly avoid our area and allowing outdoor events free of being rescheduled or cancel. For the Lady Lancers from Holy Cross, they would be happy to pick up another win when they traveled to Bishop Eustace looking to put together a win streak under these sunny skies. With an early three run lead over the home team, Holy Cross watched their advantage dwindle down to a single run. The Lancers would rally during the late innings and defeat the Crusaders 6-2 in a non-league game.

Seneca's Hard Work Pays Off

When you take a look at the statistics, the match up between the Golden Eagles from Seneca and the Lancers from Holy Cross, it appeared that this would be a competitive game. The team limiting their turnovers and executing well would pick up the well deserved win. When Mike Schiraldi scored the first goal of the game for Seneca, Holy Cross would respond with a goal scored by Joe Wagner. That’s the way this Olympic Conference boys’ lacrosse game went through four quarters. But on this day, the Golden Eagles’ hard work especially during the second half allowed them to outscore the Lancers by three goals. Seneca’s Kirk Kaiser would score three goals during that important second half and help the Golden Eagles pick up the 10-8 victory.

Lurano Leads Holy Cross' Comeback

While many people were enjoying the holidays by extending their mini vacation through the New Years, area high schools were hard at work participating in one of the many basketball tournaments during the break. The Moorestown Invitational was one of those schools serving as a host allowing Holy Cross and Haddon Township to compete on the basketball court. The Lancers would start this game off slowly by only scoring eight first half points against Haddon Township. Christi Lurano would lead the Lancers second half rally and eventually send this game into two overtime periods. Holy Cross would outscore the Lady Hawks by four points in double overtime and defeat Township by a 49-45 margin.

Lady Lancers Get Everyone into the Game

It was the start of a new season were two familiar teams would meet on the basketball court for a Burlington County Patriot Division game. The Lancers from Holy Cross were hosting the Scotties from Bordentown in a game that started out with both teams were trying to find a way to gain the advantage. Holy Cross would take control of this game during the second and third quarter to expand their single digit lead into double digits. By the time the final buzzer could be heard, The Lady Lancers had eight different players finding their way into the scoring column and pick up the 49-39 decision over Bordentown.

Lancers' Offense Does Not Slow Down at Cinnaminson

It’s something that you would never want to see, but it’s a situation that a team must be ready for. Leading by a touchdown at Cinnaminson High School, starting quarterback Tony Santino for Holy Cross had to leave the game due to an injury. At that moment it’s time for the backup to enter the game and continue to follow the game plan without hesitation. When Tom Reilly entered the game, he was involved in the Lancers’ four touchdown explosion scored in the second quarter to ignite a Holy Cross victory. Reilly connected with Rob Deveney twice and Holy Cross would defeat Cinnaminson by a 47-7 margin.
