Pennsauken Wins Series In Extra Innings

Haddon Township and Pennsauken were tied one game apiece in their best of three SJGSA Junior American Division championship series. The third and final game was played at the home field of top seeded Haddon Township on Crystal Lake Avenue. Everyone knew this game would be a tough one, but no one expected it to go 10 innings to decide the champion.

The championship series for the SJGSA Junior American Division, pitted top ranked Haddon Twp. (16-0) against Pennsauken (13-3-1). Game 1 was in Haddon Twp. The home team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on walks by Alisha Davy and Lindsay Gilligan, and a throwing error.

On Sunday July 11, Stratford headed to Pennsauken to continue the best of 3 playoff series in the SJGSA Junior American Division. Pennsauken led the series 1-0, after defeating Stratford in the opening game on Wednesday.

In the 18th Annual Mike DeMarco Invitational Fastpitch Softball Tournament, 14-year-old division, Pennsauken beat the Millville Thunder 9-3 to win the championship. Pennsauken was 4-0 in the tournament.

Pennsauken Ties Stratford To Clinch 2nd Place

On Tuesday, June 29, Stratford came to Pennsauken for a SJGSA Junior American game. Pennsauken was 11-2, Stratford 10-3. The winner would secure second place and home field advantage for the playoffs. Stratford took the early lead with 2 runs in the first and 3 in the second. Pennsauken managed 1 run in each inning against Stratford's starter, Jess McFerren, but in the fourth, Pennsauken pushed across 4 runs with some good base running. Christina Tofani had the key hit, an RBI single, to make the score Pennsuaken 6 - Stratford 5.

Pennsauken Takes 2 From TBAA

On Friday, June 25, TBAA traveled to Pennsauken for the first of a home and home weekend series in the SJGSA Junior American Division. Each team scored 1 run in the first. TBAA scored 4 in the second on 2 errors and 2 singles. Pennsauken answered with 4 of their own runs in the bottom of the second. The big hit was a 2-run single by Kerry Hanson. pennsauken broke it open with 4 runs in the third and 4 more in the fifth. Pennsauken won 11-7. Jessica Martino pitched 5 strong innings for her fourth win of the season. Christina Tofani struck-out 4 in 2 innings of relief. Stephanie Sylvia was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Ashley Keich had 3 RBIs.

Waterford Defeats Berlin Boro To Advance

Waterford Twp. won the first of this best-of-three SJGSA playoff series Friday night in Waterford by a score of 6-2. But due to circumstances, Berlin Boro came in to game 2 at a disadvantage, missing three key players who were in California as a result of their class at the Berlin Community School winning NASA's Space Settlement Contest. So the Berlin girls were only able to field a team of eight this day at Ted Moos Memorial Field. But as they say, adversity builds character, and brings out the best even in difficult situations.

Waterford Outlasts Heights For Final Win

It was the final game of the season for the SJGSA Girls 13-15 Junior Patriot Division, with Waterford Twp. visiting Haddon Heights. Heights kept it close until the 5th inning, when Waterford broke the game open by scoring 4 runs for a 15-8 lead, and Sarah Longino came in to pitch two shut out innings with 5 strikeouts for a final score of 17-8.

A SJGSA Girls 13-15 Junior Patriot Division game was played at Waterford Twp. versus Berlin. Waterford Twp. played a great softball game in the heat, beating Berlin 14 to 4 in five innings. Waterford is now 11-2 and they are the Patriot Division Champs. They played outstanding, both on offense and defense.

Runnemede came to Pennsauken looking to pull an upset in the SJGSA 13-15 Junior American Division. Runnemede scored 2 in the first on singles by Stephanie McWilliams and Jennifer McDaniels, but Pennsauken responded by scoring 4 in the bottom of the first. Randi Beatrice had an RBI single and stole home. Krystal Wilhelm added a 2-run single.

In a SJGSL Junior American Division game on Thursday night, Pennsauken traveled to Berlin Twp. Pennsauken fell behind early 4-1, behind the good pitching of Berlin Twp. starter Lauren Thumm. But Pennsauken scored 5 in the second on back-to-back 2-run singles by Krystal Wilhelm and Annie Bilinsky, and never looked back on their way to a 12-6 victory.

A SJGSA Girls 13-15 Junior Patriot Division game was played at Waterford Twp. Waterford jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the 4th inning. In the bottom of the 4th Stratford got 2 runs making it a 4-2 game. In the bottom of the 6th inning with the bases loaded, one out and the score 7-3, Stratford hit a ball to right field. With the game on the line, Kaitlyn Schafer made a great catch and got the ball back to the infield to hold the runners which was the play of the game.

Berlin AA jumped out to a 7-2 lead goimg into the 5th inning, playing very good defense and good pitching going into the bottom of the 5th. Waterford scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th with key hits by Nicole Cicchino, Jayme Chiumento and Abigail Taraskus.
