Cross Country Preview: Tuesday, August 25, 1998
By Bill Albertson Watch out South Jersey, the Minutemen are going to be back in action. After their best season in school history where they qualified for the state meet and sent one man to the Meet of Champions, the Minutemen are looking to continue their winning tradition in the 1998 cross-country season.
This year's team is going to have a similar look to last year's team due to the fact that they lost only one scoring senior, Conrad Haber, to graduation. This year's team will be even stronger than last year's squad.

Cross Country Preview: Tuesday, August 25, 1998
By Steve Shaklee The Cherokee Cross-Country team is coming off of the best year in the history of the program. Last year, the team won the Burlington County Championship, the Olympic Conference Championship, the South Jersey Group 4 Championship and the State Group 4 Championship (first in school history). The Chiefs went on to place 3rd in the State Meet of Champions and earned the #1 ranking in South Jersey and 3rd in the State.
The loss of Senior co-captains, Matt Urbanovich and Jeff Storch (an All-South Jersey Track Selection) will hurt, but the team has a good group of 5 returning varsity competitors. Last year's team leader, Ben Werbos, is back and looks to be one of the top runners in the State.

Youth Track & Field: Friday, July 10, 1998 Press Release
The South Jersey Track Club (SJTC) in only its first year of existence has 6 athletes who qualified for AAU Jr. Olympics National Track and Field Championships in Norfolk, VA. This is exceptional for a first year club, which only consist of about 25 athletes. According to team president Michael Murray, "I was very surprised at how well our team did at the big meets, the kids trained really hard, and it is good to see the hard work pay off. Now we have got to figure out a way to finance the trip for all of our athletes". There were several clubs in South Jersey who had athletes qualify for the AAUs, this is a testament to the depth of track and field talent that exist in South Jersey. In fact, some of the best clubs in Philadelphia have South Jersey athletes competing for them. With high profile programs like Willingboro and now the new South Jersey Track Club, there really is no incentive for our kids to leave the area.

There were teams from Burlington County that also competed in this meet. By competing in these events, these students are getting ready to take that next step into the high school competion. But these students were only thinking about the events that were taking place today.

Team Profile:
By Bob Grimmie
The Bishop Eustace boy's cross-country team finished last season ranked 5 in South Jersey in the Courier-Post's top 20 poll. They began this season with a few questions. Through hard work and some divine intervention, these questions seem to have been answered. Head coach Michael Edmondson lost his number one, three and five runners to graduation. Ben Schuler, one, and Brian Berkley, three, were both first team All-conference and first team All-parochial. Despite these loses, Edmondson has high hopes for this years unit. "I still say that we're a better team this year," said Edmondson. "They've logged more miles, they've done more speed work, now all they've got to do is put it together."
