Event Spotlight: Flyers Open Training Camp Sunday, September 10, 2000 PRESS RELEASE On September 10, 2000, the Philadelphia Flyers opened their 2000-01 training camp with 54 players on their roster. For the first day the 54 players are divided into 3 teams of 18 each. The names of the teams are by the colors of the jerseys, Black, Orange and White. They will scrimmage for the next couple of days at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 am at the Voorhees Skate Zone. Here are the rosters for each team. |

With all the preparations made during the off season and the endless hours of football practices, high schools throughout South Jersey were ready to show all the improvements they have worked hard on. Even the parents club from Camden Catholic was happy to show off their "Goal Line Stand". Event Spotlight: Flyers Re-sign Defenseman Chris Therien Saturday, September 9, 2000 PRESS RELEASE The Philadelphia Flyers today re-signed defenseman Chris Therien to a four-year contract. As per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Therien, 28, registered four goals and nine assists for 13 points and 66 penalty minutes in 80 regular season games last season. |
Winning Ways: How I Spent My Summer, Part I Saturday, September 9, 2000 By Gregory "Graig" White It is with great excitement that I share with you my vacation to Lincoln, Nebraska. That's right, I used the words "vacation" and "Lincoln, Nebraska" in the same sentence. I spent a week with the strength staff for the Pre-Season training of the number one football program in the country. I got to see up close and personal the guys that you will be hearing about throughout the season. The general assumption is that starting the season ranked number one means there is no place to go but down. Huskers will be challenged each week by a team who knows they are competing with a program rich with the tradition that Nebraska has created. |
South Jersey Soccer: Berlin Township Dedicates Soccer Fields as Peewees Open Season Saturday, September 9, 2000 By Bob Stewart This past Saturday, the Berlin Township Council dedicated three newly sodded soccer fields on Edgewood Avenue. The fields are part of the Green Acres funding that the Township's received this past year. The three fields are all in great shape with thick sod and irrigation systems. The fields are located off of Route 73 at Edgewood Avenue in Berlin Township (about 1 mile south of the Berlin Circle). The dedicated name of the fields is the Edgewood Avenue Soccer Complex. The Complex will have a snack bar, storage, and bathrooms. As an additional part of the project, the township will also be putting in baseball and softball fields at the Luke Avenue Complex. |
South Jersey Soccer: Millville defeats Berlin Township U-9 in a South Jersey Girls Soccer Game Saturday, September 9, 2000 By Brian Little The Berlin Township Hurricanes traveled to Millville to play the Diamonds this past Saturday in a South Jersey Girls Soccer U-9 Division 5 game. It was very hot and muggy as the players ran up and down the pitch. Some of the parents were joking to the coaches about providing the players with pickle juice. Both teams moved the ball well up and down. The Hurricanes got the first break of the game, as M. Foster scored on some hard work from A. Romeo and B. Gadzia. The Diamonds came back and scored a goal, with a beautiful shot by A. Bruno. The half ended with the score 1-1. |
Event Spotlight: Skate Zone Opening in Voorhees is Grand Friday, September 8, 2000 By Mike Costantino This past Friday the practice facility for the Flyers and Phantoms, the Skate Zone in Voorhees, had its grand opening at 5:00PM and along with the hundreds of fans, there were players from both teams as well as the broadcasters to participate in the celebration. The 100,000 square foot facility features two ice rinks, with a seating capacity of 400 per rink, seven multi-purpose rooms, an arcade, snack bar and in case you don't have your own skates, they have 622 pairs that you can choose from to rent. |
South Jersey Volleyball: Community Volleyball Association Opens New Season Thursday, September 7, 2000 By Vincent Lewis There's a new volleyball facility in South Jersey and it's called Community Volleyball Association Inc. With its location at Five Points in Deptford Township New Jersey, this facility will be the place for volleyball all season long with five indoor courts and eight outdoor sand courts. The CVBA is now open to outdoor volleyball with tournaments now being held on the sand courts. The building for the indoor courts will be completed in October. |
South Jersey Soccer: Hurricanes Earn 2nd Place at Pittsgrove Labor Day Tournament 2000 Tuesday, September 5, 2000 By Jerry Amari The Vineland Hurricanes spent a good part of the Labor Day weekend toiling at the 12th Annual Labor Day Tournament hosted by the Pittsgrove Soccer Club.
