Washington Township Takes Round One

The first round between the big four in Boy's Volleyball was completed last night in Washington Township. The Cherry West Boy's Volleyball team traveled to Township in an attempt to give them their first loss. Washington Township was up for the task and remained unbeaten with a 15 - 7, 15 - 9 straight set victory. The win clearly indicates that they are the team to beat in South Jersey this season. Township used a well balanced attack along with some tough serving to maintain control of the match from start to finish.

Cherry Hill East Comes up Big Against Eastern

The Cherry East Boys Volleyball team traveled to Voorhees on Monday April 30th to do battle with Eastern. This promised to be a very intense match as both teams are ranked in the top 15 of the state and along with Cherry Hill West and Washington Township are among the four best teams in the southern part of the state. The match did not disappoint as the first game alone took 45 minutes to complete. In the end, Cherry Hill East held off a tenacious Eastern comeback and took the match 15 - 10 and 15 - 7.

Washington Township Spikes a Big One

The Washington Township Boys Volleyball team completed a monster week on Friday afternoon by knocking off Olympic powerhouse Cherry Hill East in two games: 15 - 11, 15 - 9. Earlier in the week they had beaten another Olympic power, Eastern, in three games. The two wins show proof that Township is a team to be reckoned with this season. Cherry Hill East, which is in a rebuilding year, suffered just their second loss to a South Jersey team in their history of volleyball..

History Made at Cherry Hill West in Olympic Volleyball

The 2001 Boys Volleyball just got underway on Monday April 2nd, but on April 5th the Cherry West Lions provided everyone with a bit of history by defeating the Cherry Hill East Cougars 4-15, 17-15 and 15-12. Prior to this match, Cherry Hill East had never lost to another Conference or South Jersey team. Since Volleyball began in 1994, the Cougars have been a powerhouse. They have always made it to the semi finals of the state tournament. The run includes a string of three consecutive state titles.

3rd Annual Olympic Conference Senior All Star Game

It was a night of stars at Eastern Regional High School Monday as the third annual Olympic Senior All Star game was held in front of over 400 fans. This game gives the seniors a chance to show case their individual skills and more importantly have a lot of fun in the process. The game had representatives from nine of the Olympic Conference teams. Additionally, several of the none participating coaches found the time to attend the match.

1st Annual Frank McAleer Memorial Tournament Held at Eastern

On Saturday November 4th, Eastern High School in Voorhees was the place to be for great Volleyball action. Seven teams from as far north as Clifton and as far south as Washington Township participated in the first annual Frank McAleer Memorial Volleyball tournament. The teams included Clifton, Cherry Hill East, Hunterdon Central, Bridgewater, Washington Township, East Brunswick and Eastern. Eastern split into two squads for the event in order to provide two even pools.

Eastern Takes Match Against Cherry Hill East

In a match were two of the top girl's volleyball teams met on the court, everything was at stake with the conference title on the line. The Lady Vikings of Eastern traveled to Cherry Hill East to face the Lady Cougars. This very competitive meeting between these two teams would go the distance with the Lady Vikings gaining the edge to defeat East 15-8, 10-15, 15-9. Natalie DiFeliciantonio led the team with 9 kills and 6 stuff blocks, while Alison Lorenzo contributed 13 service points, 4 aces and 17 assists.

Fourth Annual JV Volleyball Tournament Held at Cherry Hill East

Cherry Hill East High School hosted their fourth annual Junior Varsity Volleyball tournament on Saturday October 28th. Eight schools featuring fifteen teams were represented at the event. As the girl's season concludes this week, this type of tournament gives the younger players a tremendous opportunity to gain valuable experience. The format divided the teams into three five team pools. Each team would play the other four teams in their pool twice. The teams with the best records in each pool would advance to the semi-finals. Additionally, the team with the best second place record would be given the final semi-final spot.

Lady Cougars Draw First Blood in Olympic Volleyball

The Cherry Hill East Lady Cougars traveled to Voorhees yesterday to take on the Eastern Lady Vikings in an Olympic Conference Volleyball match. Both teams entered the contest undefeated in league play. Thus, this one would give the winner an edge in the race for the 2000 league crown. These perennial Olympic power houses were no strangers as they had met in tournament play at the Viking Invitational on September 18th. That encounter was won by Eastern, however, those matches are not reflected in either team's record due to the tournament format. On this afternoon, the Lady Cougars would not be denied as they clawed their way to a 15 - 11, 15 - 7 two set victory. The Cougars were led by Neesha Shah and Jhana Zarghami who combined for over 20 kills and 7 blocks.

Cherry Hill East Serves Their Way Past Moorestown

With the USA women's volleyball team winning a metal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the results of that victory would be felt all over the country. The girl's volleyball season was well underway in South Jersey and winning the gold would the minds of most throughout this season. The Moorestown Lady Quakers were going up against the Lady Cougars from Cherry Hill East at Moorestown High School. The Cougars would use their hard serving skills to power their way past Moorestown, 15-3, 15-9.

Community Volleyball Association Opens New Season

There's a new volleyball facility in South Jersey and it's called Community Volleyball Association Inc. With its location at Five Points in Deptford Township New Jersey, this facility will be the place for volleyball all season long with five indoor courts and eight outdoor sand courts. The CVBA is now open to outdoor volleyball with tournaments now being held on the sand courts. The building for the indoor courts will be completed in October.
