Audubon Bats Do the Talking Against Eagles

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

During the season, most of the time a team plays an opponent two times from their division usually on their home field. The first time the Eagles from West Deptford hosted the Green Wave from Audubon, it was a pitcher's duel and West Deptford would hold onto an early lead. Both of these teams were looking to get back on the winning track as they would lose their previous game during their opponent's last at bat. This time at Audubon, the Green Wave would score in every inning except one and were not too hospitable as their six run fifth inning put this game out of reach. Audubon's Nate Cowan and Bob Chiarulli would highlight this game with a homerun each and the Wave would cruise to a 14-3 win.

Thursday, May 3, 2007

By Stephanie Wright
SJSports Special Correspondent

With the cutoff date to qualify for the playoffs not that far away, teams have been competing at a higher level doing whatever they can to extend their regular season. Two teams who just would not give up were West Deptford and Haddon Heights. These teams from the Colonial Conference knew the importance of this softball game and neither one of them gave up even when they were behind on the scoreboard. After West Deptford extended their lead to two runs, the Garnets needed to come up big during their last at bat. Haddon Heights would push across three runs during the bottom of the seventh inning and defeat the Lady Eagles by an 8-7 margin.

Friday, April 13, 2007

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

The Lady Eagles from West Deptford have been an on row starting out their new softball season. By winning their first three games, they have remained amongst the leaders of the Colonial Conference. Also representing the same competitive conference, Audubon dropped their season opener and was looking to win their second game in a row against another undefeated team. West Deptford's Michele Black has been successful keeping their opponents from generating runs and she would continue to do so today. Audubon would score only one run in this game but that was enough for Lauren Beckas to pitch seven scoreless innings for the Green Wave. Audubon's defense came up with some nice plays to preserve their 1-0 victory.

Finally getting a chance to play, they still had to wait for the junior varsity to finish their game. By the time the Lancers took the field against West Deptford, this game swung quickly in favor of the home team. Holy Cross jumped out to a five goal lead at halftime and continued to dominate their opponent behind Paul Colflesh and Sean Neary three goal performance. Haddonfield Still Perfect in New Season

Wednesday, September 27, 2006

By Susan Hall

It was a game that both teams played well enough to come away with the win. Excellent team play, stick control and aggressive play could seen at Haddonfield were the Bulldogs were hosting West Deptford in a Colonial Conference Liberty Division field hockey game. This was the second time these two teams have met and for the second time, Haddonfield had the answers in defeating the Lady Eagles. Working together as a single unit on the field, Haddonfield's defense was able to preserve a 1-0 lead during the second half and remain undefeated.

Triton Continues to Prepare for Postseason

Tuesday, May 9, 2006

By Joyce Sagerty
SJSports Special Correspondent

With so much focus on qualifying for the upcoming softball tournament, there's a tendency to forget about winning the conference or division title. Triton needed every win during the regular season in order to keep pace with or move ahead of Shawnee in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division. The Mustangs' victory over the Shawnee yesterday plus their 11-1 win over West Deptford has pushed them on top of the race. For West Deptford, the loss has put them in the position of winning their next two games in order to qualify them for the post season.

Hilt Does It All for West Deptford

Friday, May 5, 2006

By Jason Brown
SJSports Special Correspondent

Baseball can be a very interesting game where sometimes the bounces on the field just don't go your way. When those times occur, the main focus is to just get the outs in order to get through an inning. On the other side of the players' bench, there's a different feeling that the players don't want it to end. In a Colonial Conference game played at Audubon, the high flying Eagles from West Deptford were the recipients of everything going right for them. Starting pitcher Justin Hilt drove in seven runs with his bat and West Deptford cruised to a 22-6 win over Audubon.

Collingswood Patiently Sticks To Game Plan

Friday, May 5, 2006

By Stephanie Wright
SJSports Special Correspondent

West Deptford was very impressive with their defense during the early moments of their game against the Lady Panthers from Collingswood. Rachel Mehaffey helped the Eagles jump out to an early two goal lead and knew that the entire team would have to continue to play at a high level against a very successful Lady Panthers team. Collingswood, after coming up short scoring a goal on their first five shot attempts, continued to apply pressure on West Deptford's defense and was rewarded by scoring eight straight goals and pull away from a determined Eagles team. Collingswood would pick up their tenth win in a row with their 18-7 victory.

With the score tied at 2-2 entering the final period and both teams playing strong defensively, it felt like whoever scored next would win. Friday, January 27, 2006

By Mike Costantino

Mark Lamberto is not hard to find on the ice, he’s arguably the smallest player in the SJHSIHL, but on Friday night at Hollydell, he was the best player on the ice, especially in the first period as Timber Creek defeated West Deptford 5-1. Five minutes into the game Lamberto sent in Tom Hopkins and his shot found the net for a 1-0 lead. Given a chance to tie on the power play minutes later, West Deptford was stoned by Derek Cafasso on a great scoring opportunity, and Lamberto picked up the puck and he flew down the ice with Phil Rivello and joining them on the break was Danny Cavallaro, Lamberto hit Cavallaro and his quick shot gave Timber Creek a 2-0 lead.

Collingswood Moves into another Group Final

Monday, November 7, 2005

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

Time and time again the coaches send their players onto the field with the expectation of following every set of guidelines they must execute to coming away victorious. The relationship between player and coach is one that some would not agree with, but it is necessary for eleven players to work as one to complete their objective. West Deptford hosting Collingswood were two teams that have demonstrated their ability to win because of their relationship with their coaching staff. But sometimes it’s those individual performances that can change a game. Katie Feeley and Stefanie Bucholski were two players highlighting this team effort in defeating West Deptford 5-1 in a South Jersey Group II semi-finals game.
