All things considered, the quarterfinal match up between the Moorestown Quakers and the Pleasantville Greyhounds had all the drama of a championship game. Just as expected, this was not an easy game for either team as they battled for 4 quarters. The Greyhounds, led by Dujuan McNair, jumped out to early leads in each quarter. Moorestown had several advantages, like playing at home and playing in front of their hometown faithful. Matt Pedrick converted on his free throws late in the game and held off Pleasantville for a 79-78 victory to advance to the semifinals against Gloucester.

No one told the Cherokee Chiefs to lay down and let the Shawnee Renegades beat them just because they lost to them during the regular season. The Renegades were expected to just dominate Cherokee in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 boys basketball tournament. Shawnee watched the Chiefs hit everything they threw up to the basket in the first quarter to show the visiting crowd they came to play ball. But Shawnee didn't disappoint the home crowd as they shut down Cherokee's offense late in the game and came away with a 66-45 victory. The Renegades advance to the next round of the playoffs against Highland.

At the honorary Bob Costello Gymnasium in Evesham, the high schools of Cherokee & Highland faced each other in the final game of the regular season. In a playoff tune up, the Highlanders looked in peak form with a 61-46 victory. As Cherokee prepares to face Shawnee in the opening round of the N.J.S.I.A.A. Group IV playoff, you can bet that Highland will be in the stands scouting. Highland will face the winner of the Chief/Renegade match-up.

With a week to go before the Cherokee Chiefs (12-9) and the Shawnee Renegades (17-5) face each other in the NJSIAA Group 4 playoff tournament, the packed house in the Medford gymnasium was privy to a sneak preview. And if tonight's contest was any indicator of what the next weeks action holds, then additional stands will have to be added. In this intensely played game, the Shawnee Renegades came out on top with a 63 to 40 victory.

There was a lot at stake for the Burlington Township boys basketball team. With just two games remaining in their season, Township needed to defeat Florence and win their last game to capture the Burlington County League's Freedom Division. This game had flashes of great plays amid stretches of air balls, turnovers and bricks, but Township came away with a 49-46 victory over Florence.

Exceeding the expectations of science, the Chiefs captured lightning in the battle for the second time in less than 24 hours at the honorary Bob Costello Gymnasium in Evesham. The Cherokee Chiefs (11-9) and the Woodrow Wilson Tigers (11-9) squared off against each other. Although both clubs posted identical records, the hotter-than-the-new Sports Illustrated-swimsuit-issue Chiefs edged the gamely Tigers by a 50-48 score in another wildly exciting game.

Whew! is the word that can best describe the game here at Evesham between the Cherokee Chiefs (10-9) and the #1 team in the Olympic American Conference, the Cherry Hill East Cougars (17-2). The Chiefs scored an upset of Godzilla-like proportions against the Cougars in a highly entertaining game.

The rivalry between the Lenape Indians and the Cherokee Chiefs dates back long and far for these two neighboring schools. In a packed gymnasium in Evesham, the pre-game rock-n-roll was a precursor to the game that was to follow. The Chiefs (8-9) and the Indians (5-12) could throw their records out the window on this night as it was evident in the first meeting between these two (a thrilling overtime 2 point win by Lenape on Jan. 7).

The Cherokee Chiefs beat the struggling Lenape Indians Thursday night, 53-32. The Indians defeated the Chiefs earlier in the season, in a double-overtime barn-burner, but it was a very different story in Marlton on Thursday. Cherokee dominated the boards and held Lenape's star senior, Chris Hall, to just 8 points, 13 below his season average. Offensively frustrated, Lenape didn't score double-digits in a quarter throughout the game.

The last time these teams met it was a blowout and the first few minutes of this game looked like it might be a repeat. But then the Lady Hawks turned it up and made a game of it. Near the end of the first quarter, the Knights led by Kim Moro and Jessica Copskey led 11-4, a seven point lead, but by the half the lead was 22-18, only six points. The teams played nearly perfectly even ball through the final three quarters of play.

As the Cherokee Chiefs and Washington Township Minutemen prepared for their rematch game, the Minutemen had one thought on their minds, "payback". The reason being is that the Chiefs were victorious in the first match up between these two group 4 playoff bound teams 46-44. In their first meeting the Chiefs came out on top in an intensely emotional game at Township. Now the Minutemen were on the road looking for revenge. They found revenge by toppling the Chiefs 77-45 at Cherokee on Thursday night.

These Burlington County League Liberty Division opponents met for their final time of the regular season in a battle for the top of the division. The Lady Chimeras trailed most of this game but saw an opening to steal a victory from Rancocas Valley at home, 57-45.

The Washington Township girl's basketball team traveled to Edgewood for an Olympic Conference game. The Lady Minutemen played a great game of pressure defense against a very young Lady Eagles team and turned turnovers into points. The Lady Minutemen would not let the Eagles get loose. Every time an Eagle would touch the ball, a Township player would be in her face. This fast paced pressure defense lead to a 22 - 0 first quarter score. At the end of the half it was Washington Township 22, Edgewood 6.

Outplayed. That's the only word you need to describe how the Lenape Indians fared against their cross-town rival, the Shawnee Renegades, as Lenape lost 72-44. Amazingly enough, the final score doesn't indicate how bad Lenape was beaten. Let's put it this way, Lenape didn't score a basket until three minutes were left in the second quarter.

Heavily favored Rancocas Valley hosted Shawnee Saturday afternoon in girl's basketball. It would seem as if this matchup would be another display of a strong RV team wearing down the Lady Renegades. Things don't always happen the way you expect when two good teams battle on the court. Shawnee was able to shut down Rancocas Valley's offense in the second half and defeated them 40-31.

Teams go through their practice drills preparing themselves for game time situations. Take for instance, free throws, which proved to be the difference in Saturday's non-league girl's basketball game. Cherry Hill East hosted a very talented Willingboro team and converted 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to get past their opponent. The Lady Cougars were able to pull away and defeat Willingboro 45-36.

As if things couldn't get worse for the Indians. The Eastern Vikings beat the Lenape Indians, 51-39 Tuesday night in a game that was filled with missed opportunities and mental errors. Both coaches for the respected schools were visibly frustrated and upset about the overall sloppy play of the game. The Indians, who've had their share of sloppy play this season due to inexperience and lack of height, fell to 1-4.

Coach Kevin Kelly's Lenape Indians (0-2) lost a hard fought battle to their rivals, the Shawnee Renegades (2-0), 49-60. Shawnee's much-hyped point guard, Sean Mulholland, played sparingly throughout the first half after an ankle injury that occurred early in the first quarter. However, with Shawnee's pressure defense and with Michael Medvedtz's outstanding play, they took an early lead and never looked back.
