Vikings' Lindsay Roy Scores For Varsity

Lindsay Roy became the first female to score a goal for the Eastern Vikings varsity squad as they skated by Holy Cross 8-0 in a SJHSIHL game played on Monday night at Pennsauken. For most of you not familiar with Lindsay, a senior, she skates with the Eastern JV team. As most coaches will try and do, any seniors that are on the JV squad that have not dressed for a varsity game, schedule permitting, will play a varsity game before they graduate.

Triton Ties Up Collingswood

Drew Ricco scored two goals as Triton rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Collingswood 3-3 in a Tier 2 SJHSIHL game played Monday night at the Coliseum. Collingswood, leading their division, was led by Adam Wiedmann with a goal and an assist. Wiedmann scored in the first two minutes to give Collingswood the early 1-0 lead. With Triton goalie Joe Roccia playing solid in nets, he kept the Mustangs close until they could get their offense on track.

Township Pummels Pirates, As Eights Are Wild

Washington Township scored eight goals in the second period to blow open a close game and crushed St. John Neumann 12-3 at the Coliseum in a SJHSIHL game played on Monday night. Buddy Anderson (who wears number eight) led the way with two goals and two assists and Township had eight different players score, which has been key for them all year as they are getting contributions from all their lines. Township remained one point behind Clearview for first place in the league that has turned into a two-team race.

DelRossi And Kesyer Lead Hollydell Hurricanes

The Hollydell Hurricanes Pee Wee hockey team implemented a new offensive system two weeks ago and it's beginning to pay off in goals scored. In the two games this weekend, the Hurricanes netted 17 goals enroute to two decisive victories. The Canes defeatd Pocono 8-3 on Saturday and defeated the Haverford Hawks 9-4 on Sunday. The team is getting balanced scoring from all three lines to go along with a solid defense and goaltending.

Owls Overwhelm Rutgers-Camden

Randy Rangione had a goal and four assists, and Nick Anderson had two goals and an assist to lead Temple over Rutgers-Camden 7-1 in a college game played at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The Owls took an early 1-0 lead as Mike Hufford scored a power play goal with Anderson and Rangione assisting. That lead lasted just over three minutes as Adam Lemma scored from the blue line to tie the score at 1-1.

Becker Is All Natural In Vikings' Win

Mike Becker scored a natural hat trick in leading Eastern to a 6-3 win over Lenape in a SJHSIHL game played on Monday night at the Coliseum. Becker opened the scoring as he scored on a breakaway after being sent in by Tom Fadako three minutes into the game. Two minutes later Becker banged home a rebound goal after a scramble in front of the net. The assists went to Ryan Sullivan and Adam Esfahani and the period ended at 2-0.

Hartung Brothers Help East To Victory

Chris Hartung had two goals and twin brother Andrew had a goal and an assist to lead Cherry Hill East to a 7-0 romp over West Deptford in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Andrew opened the scoring for East with the assist to Kevin Descrochers. That opened the gate as East would score three more times in a span of five minutes. Not to be upstaged by his brother, Chris was sent in all alone by Vince Galasso and gave East a 2-0 lead.

Clearview Too Much For Holy Cross

Mike Gooch and Rob Coble notched two goals each as Clearview breezed by Holy Cross 6-0 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Clearview, which had been getting off slowly in the last few games, wasted little time as Gooch scored thirteen seconds into the game. Just as you were settling into your seat, it was already 1-0. Two minutes later, Coble made it 2-0 with the assists going to Pat Sullivan and Ryan Arnold.

Clearview Brings The Power Into Play, Stays Unbeaten

Clearview scored three power play goals in the third period, five overall, and remained undefeated by defeating Eastern 7-3 at Hollydell on Friday night. With the victory Clearview not only remains undefeated, but also should remain so until the last two games of the season when they play Township in back-to-back games. Eastern suffered its second loss of the season, both to Clearview and would need a lot of help to finish in first place.

West Outlasts Holy Cross In Close Game

Cherry Hill West's upstart JVB ice hockey team provided another boost to its program by defeating Holy Cross 3-2 in a highly competitive and cleanly played SJHSIHL game last Sunday at the Twin Rinks in Pennsauken. The game was in doubt right up to the final seconds, as West's goalie John Lynch made a tremendous save on a penalty shot with just twenty-two seconds remaining in the contest.

Rutgers Falls to Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall beat Rutgers-Camden 4-1 in a college hockey game played at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Unable to generate much offense and being out-shot by F & M 42-20, Rutgers fell behind in the first two minutes and never recovered. Casey Fogety scored on the power play with Dave Dymnicki assisting and F & M led 1-0. Stuart Tenney made it 2-0 in the closing minutes of the period. In past games, Rutgers has rallied from larger deficits but not today, as any scoring chances were turned away by goalie Tim Crawl.

Triton Offense Too Much For Cherry Hill West

Triton defeated Cherry Hill West 7-5 on Friday night at Hollydell in a SJHSIHL game. Triton's offense generated fifty-eight shots, twenty-four in the last period. Mike Wanton and Mike Dandurand tallied two goals each to pace the Triton attack. Alex Vasserman had three goals and two assists to pace West. Wanton scored just over two minutes into the game to give Triton the 1-0 lead, with Ed Skomsky getting the assist. Ninety seconds later Bud Flick made it 2-0 and it seemed as if the rout was on, however, with West on the power play Vasserman cut the lead in half as he scored unassisted.

Five different players scored for Clearview as they shut out Shawnee 5-0 and remain undefeated in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. After a scoreless first period, Gunnar Fox scored with John Meenan assisting with just about three minutes left in the second period, which was dominated by Clearview as they out-shot Shawnee 18-1. If not for the strong play of net minder Charlie Rodrigo, the score could have been worse.

Vikings and Minutemen - Fit to be Tied

Eastern rallied from two goals down with nine minutes left in the game to salvage a 5-5 tie with Washington Township in a match-up of two of the top three teams in the league. Mike Becker gave the Vikings the early 1-0 lead scoring an unassisted goal three minutes into the game. Three minutes later, Joe Pelle had a breakaway. As Pelle was making his moves, the puck slid off his stick and fooled Eastern goalie Mike Keppler. Pelle effort resulted in a goal and tied the score at 1-1.

Vasserman And VanArsdalen Lead West To Win

Alex Vasserman had three goals and an assist, and Bryce VanArsdalen was stellar in goal as Cherry Hill West defeated West Deptford 6-4 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday. After each team failed on separate five-minute power plays, Bob Koch gave Deptford the 1-0 lead with just over three minutes left in the period. But the lead would only last forty-four seconds, as Vasserman would score his first of three, unassisted to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second period.

Desrochers Leads East Over Kingsway

Kevin Desrochers scored four goals and David Ash added two as Cherry Hill East defeated Kingsway 8-3 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell. Neither team generated much offense in the first eight minutes of the game until Nick Giambanis, with just less than six minutes left, put East on the board. Vince Galasso and Jaret Wallace got the assists on the goal. Kingsway would tie the game at 1-1 when Brian Byrwa converted on a 3-on-1.

Late Flurry by Township Sinks Vikings

Washington Township scored three goals in a span of four minutes in the third period and went on to defeat Eastern 6-2 in a JVA division game played at Hollydell. After a scoreless first period, Adam Roy gave Eastern the 1-0 lead fifteen seconds into the second period on a nice pass from Bret Fadako. Nick Martorano would tie the game at 1-1 with just over eight minutes remaining in the second period. Both teams played solid defense and limited the scoring chances, but with Eastern on the power play Randy Einfalt scored with Bryce Lawson and Roy assisting and Eastern led 2-1.

Scranton Edges Rutgers As Rally Falls Short

Tim Miller had two goals and two assists as Scranton defeated Rutgers-Camden 4-3 in a Delaware Valley league game on Saturday at the Coliseum. Rutgers trailed 4-1 early in the third period, but a power play goal and an end-to-end rush by Adam Lemma cut the lead to 4-3. Despite out-shooting Scranton thirty-five to twenty-five, Rutgers couldn't get the equalizer. After Lemma scored his first of two goals to give Rutgers the early 1-0 lead, Miller tied the game shortly thereafter.

Clearview Continues Undefeated Season by Skating Past Cinnaminson

There was a game played on Friday night at the Holleydell Ice Hockey Rink that turned out to be a shoot out. Clearview went up against Cinnaminson in a SJHSIHL game that the quicker team dominated. Clearview had little problems winning the game 10-0, but lost Mike Cianfrani for two weeks with a slight shoulder separation. Gunnar Fox and Patrick Sullivan each had a hat trick.

Playing with a number of J.V. players in their lineup, as well as missing their starting goalie, Township generated fifty shots on goal. If not for the outstanding play of Indian's goalie Sean Sheehan, they would have scored a lot more.

Mike Becker notched a hat trick, but it was his hustle to break up a 2-on-1 to preserve the shutout that stood out as Eastern defeated Shawnee 10-0 at the Coliseum on Monday night. Although goalie Mike Keppler faced only seven shots, Shawnee had the odd man rush and only Becker's hustle from end -to end kept them off the scoreboard. John Schellenhammer scored the first of his two goals on the power play and the Vikings led 1-0.

Highland and Washington Township skated to a 5-5 tie in a JVA Division game played at Hollydell on Sunday night. While most kids were out trick or treating, these teams were hitting and scoring in a well played game. Led by Jim Mayfield's two goals and two assists, Highland seemed on their way to victory until Joby Passanante scored a short-handed goal. His second of the game, Passanante scored with ninety seconds left in the game to lift Township.

Rutgers-Camden Loses To Explorers In Local College Hockey

Not many people know that Rutgers-Camden has a hockey team. I sure didn't, but they do, and they played LaSalle in an entertaining game on Saturday and lost 8-6 at the Coliseum. Both teams are in the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference and the school in part sponsors Rutgers-Camden. To be eligible for the team you must be taking at least four credits.

Ron McElhone scored four goals and Christian Headrick three to lead Rancocas Valley over West Deptford 10-2 in SJHSIHL action played at Hollydell on Friday evening. McElhone opened the scoring in the first minute of the game with the assist to Andrew Dudley and a 1-0 lead. About four minutes later Headrick made it 2-0 on a feed from Dan Hennessy. However, fourteen seconds later at the beginning of a power-play John Way cut the lead in half at 2-1.

Township's Balanced Attack Too Much For Lancers

Six different players scored for Washington Township as they skated by Holy Cross 7-1 in a SJHSIHL game contested at Hollydell on Friday night. After spotting Holy Cross a 1-0 lead on a soft goal scored from about fifty feet in the first minute of the game, Township would dominate for the next forty-four minutes. The Minutemen would fire sixty-three shots on goal to just seven for the Lancers, and if not for the outstanding and courageous play of Holy Cross goaltender Brian Holland, the score would have been a lot worse.

Mike Becker scored two goals and Mike Cianfrani had a goal and an assist to lead Eastern over Lenape 5-2 in an SJHSIHL game played at the Trop on Monday night. The game marked the first meeting between the two teams since last year's final that was won by the Vikings in three games. Early on the story was the goaltending. Sean Sheehan for Lenape was strong all game as Eastern pumped twenty shots in the period and forty-seven for the game.

A few minutes later Joby Passanate scored off the face-off with Mike Schauffele assisting to make it 2-0.

Both teams were missing key players, but Lenape was starting their JV goalie Malloy, who played strong defensively and helped his team to a 1-0 lead when Jon Bianco scored with Dan Whitlock assisting.

Kelly's Hat Trick Leads Chiefs Over Eagles

Kyle Kelly scored three goals to lead Cherokee over West Deptford 6-4 in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. With the outstanding play of goaltender Phil Guinto, it looked like West Deptford might steal one as he denied Cherokee early on. The Chiefs came out and dominated the first six minutes, putting constant pressure on Guinto for most of the first half of the period that was spent in the West Deptford zone. Finally at the eight-minute mark, Bob Cook scored for the Eagles on the first shot of the game with Jay Bratton getting the assist.

Shawnee's Williams scored the first two goals of the game, one shorthanded as Shawnee led 2-0 heading into the second period.

Five different players scored for Eastern in a 6-1 victory over Holy Cross in a SJHSIHL game played at the Coliseum on Monday night. For the second straight game, the Vikings had over fifty shots on goal but Lancer goaltender Brian Holland was outstanding in nets and kept Eastern off the scoreboard until the four minute mark. With the face-off in the Lancer zone, Adam Roy directed the puck to Mike Becker who skated in alone and beat Holland for the goal and the 1-0 lead.

Vikings Dress First Female In Club History

Lindsay Roy skated for the Vikings Sunday night and in doing so became the first female to compete in league play for Eastern. I arrived at Twin Rinks early in hopes of meeting Lindsay prior to her taking the ice and found her to be gracious and engaging. Standing around waiting to take the ice and surrounded by her teammates Lindsay seemed anxious and a bit nervous. When I asked her how she felt she said, "once my first shift is over I'll be able to settle down and try and help my team."

Vikings Lose To Delran In Battle Of Unbeatens

In a battle for first place in the SJHSIHL JVA Division, Delran defeated Eastern 5-3 as Brad Livingston notched a hat trick. The game marked the debut of Lindsay Roy, the first female player to skate for the Vikings and she played well. But this game belonged to Livingston, and he scored his first goal early on with Shamus Savage assisting.

When the Pirates Ed Marker was on the ice last night he was the best player by far, as St. John Neumann rolled past Cherry Hill West 9-2 in the second game played at Hollydell in the SJHSIHL on Friday night. Marker opened the scoring as he converted on a short-handed breakaway in the first minute of play and the early 1-0 lead. That lead doubled just over two minutes later as Jim Porreca scored with the assist going to Pete Klukiewski and the Pirates led 2-0.

Adam Wiedman had four goals and an assist and Joe Pavlow added one goal and an assist to lead Collingswood over Kingsway 9-1 in a SJHSIHL game played Friday night at Hollydell. Collingswood wasted no time as they scored in the first seventeen seconds on their first shot as Pavlow set up Wiedman. About three minutes later Wiedman scored again with the assists going to Mahoney and Anthony Shapella.

Eastern captured their first win of the season as Adam Roy broke a 2- 2 tie midway through the third period and the Vikings held on for a 3-2 victory. The real story of the game however was the outstanding play of Scott Gideon, the Cinnaminson goalie, who overall faced fifty-five shots and kept his team in the game. Marc Manara opened the scoring for Eastern with just under four minutes played scoring an unassisted goal after a flurry of shots at Gideon.

The Minutemen wasted no time as they scored in the first forty seconds of the opening period as Joe Pelle tallied with an assist to Chris Andrews an the early 1-0 lead. Anderson scored his first goal with just over three minutes left in the period as he jumped on a loose puck.

Mike Gooch notched a hat trick to lead Clearview over defending champion Eastern 7-5 in the league opener at the Coliseum on Monday night. With Eastern scoring the first two goals, one short-handed by Mike Cianfrani and a power-play goal by John Schellenhammer the defending champs picked up where they left off last year but Clearview would score the next 5 goals. After Gooch's second goal tied the score at the end of the first period, Ryan Arnold scored early in the second period to give Clearview a lead it would not relinquish.

The Hurricanes played a solid defensive game and received strong performances by goaltender #34 Bryan Williams (32 shots, 30 saves), #11 Joseph Del Rossi (2 assists), #25 Martin (7 body checks), and #10 Rea (4 body checks, 3 blocked shots).

Playing in their first competitive game in two weeks after winning the SJHSIHL Championship, Eastern started slow and lost to Conwell-Egan 7-3 in a second round game of the Flyers Cup tournament at Grundy Arena. Showing the effects of the layoff, the Vikings took more than half the period before they generated any offense. Fortunately, they only trailed 1-0. With just under five minutes to go, Adam Levenson tied the score at 1-1 with Mark Manara assisting.

Cheltenham Defeats Shawnee 9-4 in Flyers Cup AA

In Flyers Cup AA action, the Shawnee Renegades faced off against the Cheltenham Panthers at the Face Off Circle in Warminster, PA. The Panthers defeated the Renegades 9-4 to advance to the second round. Cheltenham's Bob Swift led all scorers, picking up 4 goals for the game.

Germantown Academy edged Lenape 7-6 in a first round game of the 20th Annual Flyers Cup tournament played at Hollydell on Tuesday night. Nate Meyers scored four goals to pace Germantown Academy and was the most dominant player on the ice. Jeff Bagnoli led Lenape, also scoring four goals with Rick Salvador, who figured in on all the goals as he had two goals and four assists.

Vikings Are Champions Again!

The Eastern Vikings defeated the Lenape Indians 6-4 to capture the SJHSIHL varsity championship at the Coliseum on Friday night before a packed house. The Vikings were led by Mike Becker, who figured in on all the goals as he scored one goal and five assists. Mike Cianfrani contributed two goals and two assists and Eastern won their second straight league championship.

Eastern defeated Lenape 6-4 in game two of the SJHSIHL championship series played at the TROP on Wednesday night. With the win the Vikings forced a third and deciding game to be played on Friday night at 6:30 at the Coliseum. The Vikings were paced by a well-balanced scoring attack led by Mike Becker with a goal and two assists, Adam Levenson with two goals and an assist, and Ben Orner with three assists.

Bianco And Salvador Steer Lenape To Win

Jon Bianco and Rick Salvador scored two goals each, as Lenape defeated Eastern 5-2 in game one of the SJHSIHL championships at the Coliseum on Monday night. The game was a lot closer than the final score might indicate as both teams played good defense and both goaltenders had strong games. Prior to the game, Coach Pontonio of Eastern felt he needed a big game from Mike Keppler and was hoping the quickness of Mike Cianfrani and Mike Becker would create good opportunities.

JV Championships Go To Cherokee And West Deptford

Cherokee rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat JVB top seed Triton in a shootout 5-4 in the first game of a championship doubleheader played at the Medford Ice Rink. After goals by Reeves, Skomsky and Dornish gave Triton a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes, it seemed that Triton was in complete control.

At the Medford Ice Rink, the Lenape Indians faced off against the Clearview Pioneers in game two of the SJHSIHL semi-finals. The Indians defeated the Pioneers 4-0 to advance to the finals. The Lenape offense was led by Rick Salvador and Jeff Bagnoli, with each picking up a goal and one assist in the victory. Sean Sheehan picked up his third shutout of the playoffs.

Jeff Bagnoli and Jerry Reed each scored two goals as Lenape defeated Clearview 5-2 in the first game of the semi-finals in the SJHSIHL varsity playoffs. Jim Davis gave the Indians a 1-0 lead midway through the first period with Jon Bianco assisting, with both teams having two players in the penalty box. Clearview's strength most of the season has been good defense and hard-hitting, but on this night they seemed tentative and did not use the body as much as they have all year.

Vikings Rally To Shock Township In Semi-final Opener

Adam Levenson scored on a breakaway with six seconds left to cap a four-goal rally as Eastern stunned Washington Township 7-6 in the first game in the semi-final round of the SJHSIHL varsity playoffs. Being without two of their top players, the Vikings were led by Levenson who not only notched a hat trick but also was a force on defense. Scoring two goals each were Jason Knee and Bob Ianni.

Eastern Works Overtime To Capture JV AAA Crown

Eastern defeated Washington Township 6-5 in overtime as Eric Piccotti scored the game winner and gave the Vikings the JV AAA title in a seesaw affair. After failing to hold onto leads of 3-0 and 5-3, Eastern scored in the first seventeen seconds of overtime and ended the season for the Minutemen. Township had lost only once during the regular season, also to the Vikings.

The game had the fever pitch of a playoff game as both teams came out hitting with Clearview's John Meenan leading the way, as he seemed to hit everything that moved.

Joe Gori scored three goals all on the power-play and Joe Pelle had a goal and two assists to lead Washington Township passed Edgewood 7-3 and into the semi-finals in the SJHSIHL playoffs. After a scoreless first period which saw Township outshoot Edgewood 18-3 only to be stoned by goalie Ed Mickus, Gori scored early in the second period with Derek Poletis and Steve Brown assisting and the 1-0 lead.

SJHSIHL playoff action at the Twin Rinks pitted the host Lenape Indians against rival Shawnee Renegades. Rick Salvador picked up both goals for the Indians with Jon Schnepf picking up assists on both. Renegades' goaltender Charles Rodrigo put in a fine effort between the pipes, facing 41 shots and allowing only 2 goals.

In an opening round SJHSIHL playoff game played at the Coliseum on Tuesday night, the Lenape Indians shutout Collingswood 6-0. Led by Jeff Bagnoli's two goals and one by brother Gregg Bagnoli, the Indians move on to the second round. Collingswood seemed to have a good game plan as they played solid defense and took few chances offensively, but they still need to score goals. When they had the man advantage, they did not capitalize as they were 0-5 on the power play.

Lancers Tame Mustangs In Playoff Opener

In an opening round playoff game at the Coliseum on Monday night, Holy Cross defeated Triton 5-3 as the SJHSIHL began its version of March Madness. After a scoreless first period in which the Lancers out-shot the Mustangs thirteen to four, Marino scored the first of his two goals on the night and Holy Cross had the 1-0 lead at the ten minute mark. Just over a minute later Phil Cordivari scored on a 2-1 break with the assist to Marino and the Lancers were up 2-0.

The Shawnee Renegades took on the Rancocas Valley Red Devils in South Jersey High School Ice Hockey action at the Medford Ice Rink. A Renegades victory would give the club the Tier 2 crown, along with a first round playoff bye and an invitation to the Flyers Cup tournament. A Shawnee loss would give all the title reward to the Cinnaminson Pirates.

It came down to the last game of the season, Lenape against Washington Township, in which the winner clinches second and avoids the defending champions and top seed Eastern until the finals. The loser could finish as low as fourth. Lenape used two goals from Salvador and a goal and two assists from McClure to defeat the Minutemen 4-2 at Hollydell on Friday night in a SJHSIHL game.

Cinnaminson, Holy Cross Tangle For Playoff Berth

At the Twin Rinks, the importance of this SJHSIHL Tier 2 game was reflected by the fan turnout. Over two hundred faithful fans were in attendance to watch the Cinnaminson Pirates against the host Holy Cross Lancers in a game critical for playoff seeding. The winner of the game would move into a first place tie with Shawnee. With a ticket to the Flyers Cup going to the first place team for Tier 2, both teams were up for the challenge. The intensity of the crowd was driven by the fast pace and physical play taking place on the ice.

Vikings Clinch First In Romp Over East

The Eastern Vikings clinched first place in the SJHSIHL by defeating Cherry Hill East 14-1 at the Coliseum on Monday night. Entering the last game of the regular season, Eastern needed a victory to secure first and the first round bye. Coach Pontonio's team responded by scoring six goals in the first period. Led by the "Mike Line" of Cianfrani with four goals, Becker with three goals and Purwin with a shorthanded goal and an assist, Eastern seemed to be on a twenty-minute power play in the first period and out-shot Cherry Hill 18-3.

John Stewart scored four goals and assisted on four others, while Kyle Kelly added a hat trick along with an assist to pace Cherokee to an easy 11-2 victory over St. John Neumann in a Tier 2 SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night.

Stewart scored an unassisted goal at the eleven-minute mark and the Chiefs led 1-0.

Both teams played a fast offensive game with the Lancers earning a 4-3 victory and sole possession of first place. John Zdrojewski led the Holy Cross attack with a goal and one assist while Paul Cordivari picked up two assists. Dan Rybeck scored two of the Renegades' three goals.

In what could have been a preview of the SJHSIHL finals, Eastern overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period and defeated Clearview 5-4 on a goal by John Schellenhammer with twelve seconds left in the game. This game had a playoff atmosphere and as the game wore on, the question was whether the excellent team defense played by Clearview would be able to contain the speed of the Vikings led by the two "Mighty Mikes", Cianfrani and Becker.

The events that took place had the Team Canadian All-Stars vs. Team PlanetUSA All-Stars. The two teams took part in 7 events: In Glas Co Puck Control Relay, Vic Ambush, Bauer Fastest Skater, Sher-Wood Hardest Shot, Sher-Wood Rapid Fire, Sher-Wood Accuracy Shooting, and Sher-Wood Breakaway Relay.

Washington Township rallied from a two goal deficit to defeat Cherry Hill East 4-3 in a SJHSIHL game. This was played Friday night at Hollydell, which Township won despite a natural hat trick by East's Chad Gunther. Township scored first as Joey Gori scored an unassisted goal to get the 1-0 lead with just over three minutes played. However Gunther scored a shorthanded goal to tie the score at 1-1 with just forty seconds left in the period.
